Stump removal

After chopping down a tree, the work isn’t completely done: There’s still a stump that needs to be removed. In fact, chopping or sawing down a tree is the easy part. Removing the stump is a whole different story.

Stump removal costs will vary depending on a variety of things:
  • Stump Diameter – Larger diameters equal higher prices.
  • Age of Stump – Older stumps are usually rotted and easier to grind down.
  • Soil Condition – Rocky soil may damage equipment, so you may be charged more.
  • Type of Tree Stump – Certain types of tree stumps are tougher to grind than others.
  • Root System – Stumps with minimal root stumps are cheaper to remove than stumps with extensive root systems.
  • Cleanup – If you want the ground-up stump to be removed as well, you will pay more.

Pruning

To keep your yard looking as attractive as possible, you periodically need to have its trees trimmed into shape. In addition to making a tree look more aesthetically pleasing, trimming or pruning can be used to remove dead or broken limbs that can pose serious hazards.

Cabeling / bracing

Tree cabling and bracing is the installation of flexible steel strand cables and braces in trees to reduce stress damage from high winds, the weight of ice or snow, and heavy foliage. As arborists, our goal is to help strengthen weak branches or limbs so that they are better able to withstand severe weather and to improve their longevity and reduce potential risk.

The installation of cables and bracing rods, along with pruning to reduce end-weight can reduce the likelihood of a structural failure.  Properly installed cables help to redistribute structural stress, and bracing rods can provide support to branch attachments deemed weak.  A combination of cabling and bracing can successfully address existing splitting limbs and trunks.  A Certified Arborist can best determine if your trees can benefit from the installation of cables and bracing rods.

Weak limbs are not always obvious, so you should contact your local professional arborist to assess your trees.

Maintenance following cable and brace installation is minimal but also important, and the hardware should be inspected periodically.

Lighting protection systems

The best way to protect trees from a similar fate is to have lightning rods installed. The lightning rod is a simple device and is as effective at protecting trees as it is at protecting other structures such as barns. The metal of the lightning rod provides an even better conductor than the moisture in the trunk, so the lightning bolt is guided down to earth without injuring the tree. While it may be impractical to install a rod in every tree on your landscape, you may narrow down the list of trees which must be protected from lightning by considering these factors:
  1. Species of tree. Certain tree species may be more or less susceptible to damage by lightning because of the characteristics unique to their species.
  2. Height of tree and its proximity to your home. Would lightning damage to trees endanger your safety or damage valuable property? If you are not sure whether or not you may require lightning protection, your best defense is to have a certified arborist inspect your trees and provide expert advice.

Lot clearing

Whether you have lake front property that needs a better view or land that you need cleared to build a home, we will clear the lot in the fastest, most effective manner. Our method allows us to remove unwanted trees and brush by mulching them and spreading them across the land. This mulch then decomposes into nutrient-rich topsoil that is ready for landscaping.

Shrub care

Shrub pruning is ideally performed between late spring and late summer.  The exception to this, is flowering shrubs, since timing has a crucial effect on the amount of flowers they will produce. Therefore, flowering shrubs should be pruned shortly after blooming but before buds are set in July.  Before you begin pruning shrubs, it's important to consider the type of pruning which will achieve an end result that is both beneficial to the health of the shrub and aesthetically pleasing to you.
